Most golf groups base themselves in one area and travel out to courses nearby. Choosing that base well makes a bigger difference to the trip than most people expect.
Vilamoura is one of the Algarve's most established golf destinations and works particularly well for groups who want several excellent golf courses close to restaurants, bars and the marina.
Everything is walkable in the evening, which removes the need for taxis after dinner, and the choice of courses within a short drive means a five-night trip rarely repeats itself.
Quinta do Lago is the Algarve's premium end: manicured resort golf set among pine woodland and lakes, high-quality accommodation and some of the best restaurants in the region.
It suits groups who want the golf and the surroundings to feel a step up.
Vale do Lobo has one of the most recognisable coastal settings in Portuguese golf, with holes running along the cliff edge and the beach a few minutes from the accommodation.

Around Lagos the coastline gets more dramatic and the atmosphere is a little less resort-driven. Courses here are spread out slightly more, which is worth planning around.
